Rosario
Why should you be interested in a musical about an obscure Mexican feminist?
I won’t bore you with how this musical will turn you into a feminist with unbreakable self esteem. (Even if you are a man) I won’t go on about how it could help to re-create a bridge of friendship with Mexico. I won’t hammer you with how it will help foster more productive conversations about fascism, racism, sexism, and all the other bad isms out there.
I’ll just tell you that Rosario Castellanos was Mexico’s feminist Stephen Colbert in the 1950’s. She was both hilarious and effective at creating social change at a time and place where it was not welcome. We desperately need her here today! It is my pleasure to introduce you, personally, to her work.
I have translated many of her poems, set them to music, and turned them into “Rosario”, the musical.
I sincerely hope you enjoy it!
